Former Grubb CEO gets new chief exec job
Former Grubb & Ellis Co. CEO Mark E. Rose was named CEO of Avison Young, a new position at the Canadian commercial real estate services firm. Mr. Rose, 44, also will be chief financial officer. He left Grubb & Ellis upon the company merging last year with Santa Ana, Calif.-based NNN Realty Advisors Inc. Avison Young has an affiliation with Grubb & Ellis.

Hotel in Buck JV opens in California
A hotel developed by a joint venture including the John Buck Co. opens Thursday in Southern California, the first aloft brand hotel in the United States. The aloft Ontario-Rancho Cucamonga is about 41 miles east of Los Angeles. Chicago-based Buck and Arlington, Va.-based Interstate Hotels & Resorts have a joint venture to develop at least five aloft hotels.
Winery/restaurant to open at S. Barrington mall
Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant plans to open its fourth location in December at the Arboretum of South Barrington, a lifestyle center under construction in the northwest suburb. Cooper’s Hawk leased 9,500 square feet, according to a release from the mall and Jaffe Cos., its Northbrook-based developer. Willow Springs-based Cooper’s Hawk has locations in Orland Park and Burr Ridge and plans to open one next month in Wheeling.
Firm announces 5 recent Starbucks openings
Baum Realty Group represented Starbucks in leasing space for five recent openings. The Starbucks are in Des Plaines, Hoffman Estates, Aurora, far southwest suburban Montgomery and far northwest suburban Volo. The locations opened in the past six months.
Bookstore to open in Highland Park center
Half Price Books plans to open a store in September at Crossroads Shopping Center in Highland Park. The Dallas-based company, which sells new and used books, signed a lease for 8,657 square feet, according to Oakbrook Terrace-based Mid-America Asset Management Inc., which represented the landlord.
